Series of paintings on hessian canvases and board. Using a mixture of plaster, paint, inks and collage. More are available to view or commission upon request.
In these works I am interested in the materiality of the paint and plaster, and allowing the gesture of throwing the mixture around with accidental splashes to form mountainous horizons and stormy seas.
In the process of making the work it has become, like any artistic practice, an obsessive kind of activity. Framed only by keeping the following in mind:
‘Even in painting, the work of art is considered not only as representing nature but as being itself a work of nature. For the very technique involves the art of artless-ness, or what has been called ‘the controlled accident,’ so that paintings are formed as naturally as the rocks and grasses which they depict.’ – Alan Watts
